Another over-cast and cold day…. but I had to fit another trip in. As long as its not raining, I’m going. I have to take full advantage of my time off before I have to go back to my window-less office next Monday, lol.

Let me begin by asking you something… Do I look like my mom, OR WHAT?! LOL (she can’t deny me, thats for sure.)
I had all the good intentions in the world to wake up early and do my regular early morning long run this Saturday but… when the alarm went off at 6:30 and I heard the rain falling outside I decided to cuddle up with Max a little longer and stay comfy in my bed.
It appeared to clear up a bit by 8:30 so I called my mom and did an impromptu trip to the beach. We only stayed for about 45 minutes because it got cold and rainy again (despite how sunny the sky appears to be in this picture, it was short lived.)
Not a bad way to start the weekend, though…. and to end my Saturday on a sweet note, dinner with my dad and step mom 🙂
As if the art festival wasn’t enough adventure for one day, I was treated to another amazing trip to a state park by my friend Casey who is in “the know.”

Rock formations at Blowing Rocks Preserve are the largest of their type on the Atlantic coast. Winter storms and extreme high tides offer the best opportunities to see the Conservancy’s Blowing Rocks live up to their name. In a scene more reminiscent of Hawaii than Florida, waves surging against the craggy limestone shore can force geysers of water as high as 50 feet into the air.
Though the dark, jagged rocks do – at first glance – look like the remains of a misplaced lava flow, they are actually a specific type of sedimentary rock called Anastasia limestone.
Scientists disagree on exactly how far inland the limestone extends, exactly when it was formed (most likely around 120,000 years ago, in the Pleistocene Age) and whether it was formed by a single event or by multiple changes in sea level.
A few things scientists can agree on:
The exposed rock at the preserve is unusual, not because Anastasia limestone is particularly rare, but because it is commonly found either underground or underwater.
Also known as coquina, from the Spanish for cockleshell, Anastasia limestone is composed primarily of shell and coral fragments, fossils and sand. Small fossils are clearly visible in the rock faces, most commonly the shells of small clams and oysters or pieces of a large snail called Busycon.
Why is so much of the limestone above ground at Blowing Rocks? No one knows. The land here might have once been part of an exposed sand ridge or the top of a reef, or for some other reason higher than surrounding areas.
At their height in winter, the Blowing Rocks are worth a visit in every season. The wind- and wave-carved limestone forms chimneys and shelves, burrows, blow holes and rocky pools. These offer great opportunities for exploration and imagination, as well as a rare window into Florida’s natural history.

Today, I’ve had some awesome outdoor time. It started with a lovely impromptu breakfast at a cafe overlooking the water in Deerfield Beach. I have to admit that walking the beach afterwards in my jeans made me very jealous of the sunbathers. All I wanted to do was go home, get changed and head back to the water. Unfortunately I had a 2pm follow-up appointment with my esthetician and thought I wouldn’t have time to fit it into my day.
I thought about it for a minute and then said to myself… what are you thinking?! What if its overcast tomorrow? What if I miss my opportunity and can’t go for another few weeks? Are you really going to miss out on a gorgeous day like this after spending a whole week in a window-less office?!
So, I called to reschedule my appointment, put on my bathing suite, drove to the beach and sat my happy self down on a towel for an hour and a half. Simple as that. Perfection…..
I must say I had a pretty amazeballs day…. It started off with Max’s first trip to the dog beach with a friend and his dog, breakfast outdoors and a great little walk through an art festival. THEN I made up for the run I missed yesterday right smack in the middle of the day! When else in Florida can you run 9 miles at noon and not die of heat exhaustion?! To be honest, it was so nice out I barely felt myself sweat! The icing on the cake was an impromptu dinner-date with my dear childhood friend.
Gorgeous blue skies, great company, getting some mileage in, hanging out with your girlfriend, spicy Chinese food AND a frou-frou drink to top it all off?! What else can a girl ask for?
