That moment at the gym when you’re hit with an oppressive wall of b.o. and you fear you are the culprit… but then the lady next to you walks away, taking with her a Peanuts character “Pig Pen”- like cloud of stink, and you are vindicated…

Finished Just in Time…
Well, I only set the clock back 15 minutes ONCE this morning but, I managed to get up and get my mileage in as planned.
It wasn’t my happiest run… I usually feel better and better as the miles pass but, today I got a stitch on the left side of my rib cage at mile 7. I tried to exhale through it and keep going but I wasn’t a happy camper and it slowed me down about 30 sec per mile.
Another thing I wasn’t too crazy about during this run was that the bridge I run over had to be raised to let a boat go by on my way back. Although this gave me a well needed break, I question whether or not my average pace really counts, considering I had rest time that I wouldn’t truly have during a race.
Either way, I’m happy. The minute I finished it began to thunder pretty loudly… As I drove home, the heavens opened up to one of our lovely Florida torrential downpours, lol. I like running in the rain but, that thunder and lightning would have really been awful to run through.
One long run completed for the week… Next one will probably be this weekend 🙂
Bicycles and Sore Butts
I am proud to say that I have been hard at work running and riding my rinky-dink bicycle lately. I have not missed a work-out except for Tuesday. I was just too tired after coming back so late Monday night from my trip out of town and wanted to give my body a rest.
My daily routine has included either a fast 3 mile run and a short cool-down bike ride OR a 6 mile bike ride and my favorite butt exercise video. I’m feeling good and am SOOO glad that I have begun to do a secondary form of cardio for various reasons:
- If I run every day, my knees and hips just don’t feel right. I ache and feel uncomfortable. Cycling has given me something to do in between my running days. Extra cardio and no knee pain? What a concept!
- Its helping me strengthen a different set of leg muscles which, i’m sure, will ultimately make me a stronger runner.
- Its fun!
- Its getting me super psyched about getting a REAL bike and doing a tri!
Despite my excitement, I have one small complaint… MY BUTT HURTS!
You would think that with my Cuban-sized booty, it wouldn’t be a sore as it is but, I’m downright uncomfortable, people. I either need to get a better seat for my bike, wear padded riding shorts or just suck it up and get used to it if I’m going to be making this a new habit!
I will be getting a more efficient bike sooner than later and will hopefully be able to try it out during my spring break! I can’t wait to share THOSE new adventures with you. Until then, I gotta keep movin’!
New Favorite Exercises for Butt and Thighs
Most women, like myself, have issues with their butt and upper thighs…. Especially us pear-shaped (or Spanish-guitar-shaped, as I prefer to be called) girls.
Here are some exercises that I’ve been doing listed order of most to least favorite. They are fun, fast and easy to do right after a run or as a quick go-to workout when you have no time for anything else. The bonus is that they strengthen muscles necessary when running which takes the pressure off joints and ligaments… less knee and hip pain AND a better looking tush?… yes, please 🙂
