May 13th: Night time run

back to school

Well, I’m swamped with reading 4 chapters, and I already have a couple of papers I need to be working on… and its only the second day of classes.  I spent 14 hours either in my car or at a desk at work or at school today.  My knees hurt from being bent all day, and my butt and lower back hurt from being sedentary.  When 7:55pm rolled around and the professor began to make sidebar conversation with my peers, I quietly escaped the classroom and ran to my car.  I wanted to take advantage of the last bits of day light.  I needed to see the sun for my own sanity after being in a window-less office then a window-less classroom all day.  Plus I didn’t want to run in total darkness.

I got to the house, greeted the pups, changed and headed out the door.  I did 3 miles at an 8:50 pace under the light of a full moon.  Not the best run I’ve had but most definitely not the worst.  I’ll proudly accept my performance, especially considering the crazy long day I had.  Feels so good to keep it up! Now…. lets get some of that reading done… :-\

April 15th: Suck it up, Buttercup!

suck it up

Today I’m grateful that I sucked it up and went for a run then a short bike ride afterwards despite having fleeting thoughts of skipping again.  NO MORE SKIPPING OUT just ’cause I’m tired or stressed out from work.  If I’m going to get faster and stronger I have to stay focussed.

Running makes me feel mentally better anyway, even if I do feel physically exhausted afterwards, lol.  It was a good day 🙂

April 10th: Repetitive Routes

bike route

So, for lack of time and for the sake of safety, I usually either bike or run the same 3 mile loop in my vicinity.  When I bike, of course, I end up doing the loop multiple times just to get more mileage in and try to go into different neighborhoods or down different streets to increase the mileage.

Today, I attempted to do just that… I went further down a major artery that intersects near my neighborhood and thought that this would be a good way to increase my mileage and be able to go faster for longer.  WRONG!  I ended up having to wait for cars to pass and 3 intersections and totally miscalculated the amount of traffic at the time I went out.

I’ve got to start planning a ride on my Saturday morning route by the ocean…  Perhaps Easter weekend!!

January 14th: Run!

running-cheaper-than-therapy-square

Today I am thankful that, despite my crazy schedule and exhaustion, I made myself get out there and RUN.

I was EXHAUSTED all day… When I got up in the morning, I kinda phoned it in and didn’t put on any eye liner and my hair looked sort of like I had styled it with an egg beater.  One of my co-workers took a look at me and asked if I was sick… (Jeez! Do I look THAT bad?!…. Unfortunately, “yes”)  The last thing I wanted to do was do exercise when I got home but I knew it would be the best thing for me.  Besides, I have a race in a few weeks and need to be ready!

Before I had too much time to think about it, I got in my running clothes and headed out for my usual 3 mile loop.  Surprisingly, I was flying!  It was the fastest week-night run I’ve done in a long while and the best part was that I felt as though it had brought the life back into me!  I was more awake, alert energized and ready to go.

Best type of therapy. (And that says a lot coming from a therapist! :))
