Holiday Calorie Pile Up… and Burn off!

How the HECK does one eat healthy during the holidays?!  Well, the answer for us normal people is… you DON’T.  You allow yourself to eat whatever you want to eat because its a special time of the year with amazing dishes that are only prepared during this season… and amazing bottles of wine that are only opened during this time too!  Are you really and truly going to prohibit yourself from indulging?  Well, if you are, than you’re a stronger woman than I (and I’m known by many to have pretty amazing will power).

The trick isn’t to abstain, its to MODERATE.  And, if you have time off like I do, just increase your physical activity.  It takes the edge off of all that family-time stress anyway    ;-).

Look at the delicious foods I’ve had the pleasure of stuffing my face with for the past week.

So, here was this week’s workout schedule to balance it all out:

Monday:  Run a fast 3 miles to start things off right.

Tuesday: Cycle 15 miles and register for swimming classes to assure I follow through.

Wed: Ran 6 miles on the morning of Christmas  Eve with my friend Jessica!

Thurs: Relaxed but felt guilty about for approximately 10 minutes before having a glass of wine and watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on the couch.

Fri: Ran 9 miles and hit the stores for some retail cardio: after-Christmas sales!

Sat: Light walk and clean the house.

Sun: Holiday 10K with my friend Caitlin!

Run, Work, Errands, School, Cook, Study… Pass-OUT!

tired

OK, folks.  I was about ready to go to bed when realized that I haven’t written in a couple of days.  I’m very proud to say that I have achieved my goal of keeping up with my fitness despite my crazy work/ school schedule.  I am now on a lax summer time schedule at work and don’t have to start my days until 9am and get to leave by 2pm.  I ran this morning, I’m going for a bike ride tomorrow, I’m almost finished with my classes, and I’ll be done with work for the summer by next Monday.

Life is good…. If I can just get through the craziness of this next week, It will all be worth it!  Today I Ran, worked, did some errands, went to class, cooked myself some dinner, studied for test, blogged and will now pass out.  In the words of Ryan Seacrest “Cristy, OUT!”

Work + School + Running = Exhausted

Today I’m grateful that I completed an exam successfully at school, after a full day’s work, then came home and ran a 5K before showering and zonking out on the couch with the pups.

Well, its officially been 8 days since I’ve posted anything and I have to say that I’m exhausted and overwhelmed.  I’ve been keeping up with my training despite it being the end of the school year AND I’m taking classes myself.

There’s so much to do!  Regardless, I’ve been averaging under 9 minute miles just as I’ve wanted to and I’ve been running 3 times a week.

Once school ends next Thursday, my schedule will be fee to run in the mornings and I can increase that to at LEAST 4 times a week (preferrably 5)

Summer, why can’t you get here sooner!!!!!???????

April 24th: Change of weeknight route!

stronger

I am happy to say that I have changed my route for 2 out of my 3 runs this week.  Rather than go the same 3 mile loop around my vicinity, I have done two 5 +/- mile runs along completely different routes.

Tonight’s run was south on A1A ending at a peer where we stretched and took a little walk to enjoy the view before heading back to our cars.  When we got back, we took off our shoes and cooled off our tootsies in the ocean before driving home.

While today was not one of my best runs, I must say that I feel myself getting stronger.  In general, I’m running faster, feeling stronger while running and becoming an all around better athlete.  This summer’s training is going to be insane!  I plan on running in the mornings when I feel most energized and get stronger through cross training day by day.

Summer vacation could not come fast enough!!!

March 12th: Like riding a bicycle

mom on bike

My mother has got to be just about the cutest thing ever…. And its heartwarming to know that she is inspired to get on her bike and do exercise because she sees me doing something almost every day after work.

When I shared that I had ridden my bike earlier, she decided she wanted in on the action.  She asked is she could come by my house and do my go-to butt workout video with me.:

When I saw her riding her bike down the street towards my house through the living room window, my heart just about melted.  She’s the best 🙂
